\u201c$200?! I\u2019m robbing you!\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

I remember this scene between Gilbert Gottfried and Eddie Murphy in <\/span>Beverly Hills Cop II<\/span><\/i> in 1987. I was a teenager, and I believe it was my first exposure to Gottfried\u2019s comedy. I remember thinking, <\/span>\u201cThis guy is funny!\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Fast forward to 2022: I\u2019m covering Comedy for <\/span>Podcast Magazine<\/span><\/i>\u00ae, and Gottfried is on my radar. As I begin reaching out to comedy podcasters, <\/span>Gilbert Gottfried\u2019s Amazing Colossal Podcast<\/span><\/i> keeps coming up in conversations. It was even one of Scott Curtis\u2019s favorites, as per his interview for the February 2022 feature on <\/span>Behind the Bits<\/span><\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sadly, I won\u2019t get the chance to interview Gilbert, given his passing on 4\/12\/22. But we can all enjoy every episode of his podcast.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I had just begun listening to it a few months prior to his death, in anticipation of eventually being able to schedule an interview. I can say this: he was a funny guy all the way to the end. My favorite episode was \u201cBlazing Saddles,\u201d a 45th Anniversary Tribute with Andrew Bergman and Norman Steinberg. It was great to listen to everyone reminisce about the \u201cold times,\u201d when comedians could push the envelope a bit without getting slapped. (Remember those days?)<\/span><\/p>\n

Gilbert was a great interviewer. He knew not to dominate the conversation and let his guests shine. But you certainly heard his infectious laugh.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

RIP, Gilbert.<\/span><\/p>\n
