Heather Monahan\u2019s journey to hosting her own podcast started when she typed a simple question into Google: \u201cHow do you sell books?\u201d<\/span>

\n<\/span>What did it say?\u00a0 \u201cBe a guest on podcasts.\u201d<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>So, she just started calling everyone she knew and said, \u201cHey, get me on podcasts.\u201d<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Confidence Builder #1: Ask for What You Want<\/b><\/p>\n

The Lady Gang Show booked her.\u00a0 And the episode quickly hit Top 10.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Heather took a screenshot of the Top 10 ranking, and sent it to the CEO of PodcastOne.\u00a0 She asked for a meeting to thank him.\u00a0 He accepted, and she knew this was an opportunity to ask for her own show.\u00a0 You can probably guess what happened next!<\/span><\/p>\n

He offered her a show on PodcastOne.\u00a0 BOOM!\u00a0 \u201cCreating Confidence\u201d was born.<\/span><\/p>\n

The very first episode was a powerful interview with Gary V.\u00a0 And live on air, Heather exercised that \u201cask\u201d muscle again: \u201cWould you have me as a guest on your show, Gary?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Heather\u2019s learned to capitalize on opportunities, because you might never get that moment again.\u00a0 Her perspective on it is this:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019d rather get a \u201cno\u201d than to not know what might have happened if I\u2019d asked!\u00a0 To me that’s just not an option.<\/span><\/p>\n

Just ask.\u00a0 Because a \u201cno\u201d is better than an \u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d\u00a0 And you\u2019ll get more \u201cyes\u201des than you might think!<\/span><\/p>\n

Confidence Builder #2: Double Down on YOU<\/b><\/p>\n

One reason Heather\u2019s loved hosting her podcast during a challenging year is that it\u2019s reminded her to just keep going.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During the pandemic, when so many people just felt like throwing their hands up and like they just didn\u2019t know what to do or how to keep going.\u00a0 And for Heather it was an opportunity to challenge herself to innovate and move forward and not give up.<\/span><\/p>\n

When you need a kick in the booty?\u00a0 Double down on you.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you really want to change your situation, you have to do things differently. Showing up and doing the same thing and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Instead of tuning into the news and things that bring you down, turn off the noise.\u00a0 Start paying attention to what information you’re allowing in. You need to fill yourself up with information that’s going to help and advance you and encourage you.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

First, you’ve got to hold yourself accountable.\u00a0 So write it down. And then share it with somebody in your life who encourages you and supports you and wants you to do better.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When you start to feel like you\u2019ve lost your confidence, it\u2019s key to take time to take care of yourself.\u00a0 As a single mom to a 13-year old son, Heather knows how challenging that can be.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But it\u2019s the best thing you can do.\u00a0 When you take care of yourself, you can show up as a better version of you for your children, your family, and the world around you.\u00a0 You\u2019ve to make yourself a priority.<\/span><\/p>\n

I love this analogy: they tell you every time you get on an airplane, \u201cHey, if we run into trouble and that face mask comes down, do not give it to the person next to you, give it to you, save yourself first and then you can go save the world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

And ask yourself: How do I want my child to show up?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I want my son to find a strong woman who makes herself a priority and leads by example. Well, then I need to show up as that person. <\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

How are you modeling for your child? Start showing up as that best version.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Confidence Builder #3: Fire Your Villains\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

When Heather heard those words\u2026 \u201cyou\u2019re fired\u201d… she realized that she\u2019d attributed so much of her self-worth to her paycheck, her job title, her team, and all the external things.\u00a0 When it was taken away, she hit a low-point in her life.<\/span><\/p>\n

So she wrote \u201cConfidence Creator\u201d as a blueprint for herself of how to recreate her confidence from the inside – in an authentic and sustainable way.<\/span><\/p>\n

She\u2019d had a huge realization: she wasn\u2019t fully showing up for herself because she didn\u2019t want to upset the metaphorical \u201capple cart\u201d at work.\u00a0 Yes, she was successful.\u00a0 She\u2019d made it to the c-suite and broken that \u201cglass ceiling\u201d.\u00a0 But she was being bullied by someone who was constantly looking down on her, undermining her and causing her to doubt herself.\u00a0 So the day Heather was fired, what really happened was that Heather fired her number one villain!<\/span><\/p>\n

The lesson in this is that when you get rid of negative people that are trying to hold you back and put you down, you set yourself up to take off.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But how do you get rid of those negative people?\u00a0 And what if you <\/span>can\u2019t<\/span><\/i> fire your villains?\u00a0 I had to ask\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

If you can\u2019t fire the villain (family, boss, etc) then you’ve got to:<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Create clear, strong boundaries.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    <\/p>\n

   Be crystal clear what\u2019s acceptable.\u00a0 No more apologizing.\u00a0 \u201cNo\u201d is a complete sentence.<\/span><\/p>\n

   Even if something was allowed in the past, today is a new day.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

   Here\u2019s an example: \u201cI don’t allow people to speak to me like that. If you’d like to have conversations with me, we’re going to have to change this.\u201d<\/span>
   \n<\/span>
   \n<\/span>Actively ask for a commitment to the change.<\/span><\/p>\n

   1. Hold people accountable.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

       <\/p>\n

      If you see people slipping back in the bad behavior, let them know.\u00a0 Say, \u201cHey, I’m confused. I let you know that this behavior doesn’t work for me.\u201d<\/span>
      \n<\/span>
      \n<\/span>You\u2019ve got to hold them accountable to change and to stick to what they\u2019ve committed to.<\/span><\/p>\n

      It might not be easy, but it works.\u00a0 And every time you stand up for yourself and stick to your boundaries, you build your confidence.<\/span><\/p>\n

      One of Heather\u2019s key takeaway from every interview: \u201cNobody’s had it easy. When you look at people on the outside, we think that Gary V or Jesse Itzler, whoever it is, they just wake up every day and life is all roses and success and they have nothing to worry about. But it\u2019s not true. Everyone has different challenges. Everyone is up against the wall. The key to success is finding a way to not give up on yourself when those moments occur.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
